Assembly

Absolutely! Wooden Comfy Chairs are shipped as a kit. With the help of an assembly manual and video, you assemble the chairs yourself. All necessary fasteners are included.

Plastic Comfy Chairs are already partially pre-assembled. You attach the parts to each other in just a few steps.

The most common mistake during assembly is that people attach the armrests of the chairs upside down. Therefore, make sure you put the right side up. The edges of the armrests are rounded at the upper side. On the underside they are not.

Yes, you can. We charge the following assembly fee for this:

– € 29.50 per chair

– € 19.50 for a footstool or table

If you order a chair pre-assembled, we send the chair by post.

For fully assembled items, we charge a shipping fee. We will do this in consultation with you.

Yes, gluing the parts during assembly is necessary. By ‘gluing’, we mean that you also apply a drop of wood glue at the fixing points during assembly. Red cedar is a soft wood. If you do not glue, you run the risk that the screw holes will widen a little over time and the chair will become less stable. By gluing, you avoid this.

If you also want to treat the chairs with oil, do this only after you have assembled and glued the chairs. The glue must first dry properly and soak into the wood. This will not happen if the chair is treated with oil first.

You will receive:
All necessary fixing materials are included. We also send along the chair glides, wood glue and the bit for the screwdriver.

Needed yourself:
cordless screwdriver, hammer and a socket spanner/wrench 13.

You can find them here.

1 screw bit is included with every order. It depends on your order, where you can find this bit:

Plastic chairs
The bit is attached to the outside of (one of) the box(es). With multiple boxes, you will find the screw bit attached to only one of them.

Wooden chairs
The bit can be found (together with the wood glue) inside the box. There are two possibilities:

  1. The bit is in a bag of screws. In this case, the box with the bit has a black, round sticker on the outside.
  2. The bit is attached to the inside of the box with the glue.

Maintenance

Yes, you can. Comfy Chairs are weatherproof, both the wooden and plastic chairs. The wooden chairs will grey over time due to the influence of the weather.

Be careful in strong winds: the wooden chairs are lightweight. An autumn storm may blow them away.

No, that’s not necessary. Comfy Chairs (including the wooden ones) are 100% weatherproof. ver time, the wood will grey under the influence of UV radiation. You can delay this process by treating the furniture with oil.

No, you don’t necessarily have to. Treating the chairs with oil ensures that the wood retains its original colour for a longer time. If you don’t treat the furniture, it will grey a bit faster. Oiling the wood has no effect on the quality or lifespan of the furniture.

We ourselves have no experience with oiling red cedar wood. We don’t treat our chairs ourselves; we like the greying of the furniture. But if you do want to treat the furniture, we recommend getting information from a paint shop or a good hardware store. Usually oil is used for red cedar or teak.

Be careful when oiling: only do this after you have assembled and glued the furniture. The glue cannot dry properly on oiled wood.

In our blogs on maintaining Comfy Chairs (wood or plastic), you will find information on how to maintain and clean them. With wooden Comfy Chairs, it is important to take into account the softness of the wood. So do not use a high-pressure cleaner, abrasive cleaning agents or hard brushes.

Usage

It doesn’t really matter where you put the furniture. Both wooden and plastic furniture are weatherproof. A few things to take into account:

Turning green
After a few months of wintering outside, garden furniture often turns green. This is due to the growth of algae and mosses. If you want to reduce algae growth, place your chairs in a sunny spot and not directly under a tree. Algae thrives best in moist, shady places and draws nutrition from organic material (such as leaves and bird droppings).

Warming up the seat
Wooden furniture does not warm up quickly in the sun. Nor does plastic furniture in light colours. But if you have black or grey chairs, the plastic can heat up if it is placed in the sun all day.

During storms
Although wooden Comfy Chairs can withstand rain, wind and snow, there is one weather type where you do need to be careful: storms. Red cedar is lightweight. Hard gusts of wind can lift the chairs. We’ve had to lift them out of the hedge at ‘code orange’ ourselves on occasion….

Wooden chairs:

  • Broken armrests
This usually happens because someone sits on the armrest. So, you better don’t that.
  • Broken position stopper (adjustable chair)
With the adjustable chair, it is important to set the position stopper properly in the cutouts. If the stopper is not properly in the cutout and you ‘plop down’ a bit wildly in the chair, the position stopper can break.
  • Damaged wood (splinters/ getting rough)
Red cedar is a soft wood. So you need to treat it a bit ‘soft’ too. Treating it too hard can damage the wood, causing it to splinter or become rough. So do not use a pressure washer, a hard brush or abrasive detergents to clean the chairs. How to clean them properly? Read our blog on maintaining wooden chairs.

Plastic chairs:

  • Plastic becomes dull
The material of plastic chairs is very strong. So you won’t destroy these chairs that easily. What can happen is that the colour becomes dull. This is caused by too heavy-handed cleaning of the furniture. Therefore, do not use a high-pressure cleaner, hard brushes or abrasive cleaning agents. You can read some cleaning tips in our blog on plastic furniture maintenance.

About Comfy Chairs

Comfy Chairs are adirondack chairs. That in itself is not unique: adirondack chairs can be found in all kinds and materials. Comfy Chairs differ from other adirondack chairs in the following ways:

Material
Wooden Comfy Chairs are made of Red Cedar. This is a luxurious and high-quality type of wood that comes from Canada. The wood has a number of special properties, for example that it naturally repels insects and does not rot. It is a durable type of wood, unlike the often cheaper adirondack chairs made of teak. You can read more about the wood in our blog on red cedar.

Plastic Comfy Chairs are made of high quality plastics. A unique feature is that the plastic is completely solid. This makes it last much longer and makes the furniture particularly strong.

Extra comfortable shape
Comfy Chairs have a unique fit. Because we (tall Dutch people) wanted to develop an adirondack chair that also sits comfortably for people with long legs. This is not always the case with other models. Comfy Chairs therefore have:

  • An extra deep seat
  • Extra-wide armrests
  • An ergonomically shaped design

Origin: Canada

Comfy Chairs are completely original and produced in Canada. The trees for the wooden furniture are felled in Vancouver and cut by hand in Ontario. The plastic furniture is also produced there. You can read more about the origin of the furniture at Our Story.
